Romantic hotels with a jacuzzi in the room

For an anniversary or a night away, the tub is usually the point of the booking. Here are the rooms where the hotel itself says the tub is built for two, sits on your own balcony, or comes with a couples' package, followed by how to choose and what to ask.

How to choose the right room

Size: one person or two

Hotels rarely give tub dimensions. The words to look for are "two-person", "for two" or "double". "Oversized" and "large" tell you less. If the page doesn't say, ask the front desk whether two adults fit comfortably, and listen for a straight answer.

Where the tub sits

A tub in the bathroom is the most common setup in suites and timeshare-style villas. A tub in the bedroom or living area is rarer and more of an occasion. A private hot tub on a balcony or patio gives you the outdoors, but ask whether neighbors or other floors can see it and whether it is open all year.

Jets, heat and the word "spa"

"Whirlpool", "jetted" and "jacuzzi" all mean jets. "Soaking tub" usually means no jets. "Spa tub" can mean either, so ask. A true hot tub keeps its water hot; a jetted bathtub is filled fresh for you, so it takes time to fill.

Quiet

Casino resorts and family villa resorts are busy places. Small inns, such as the ones near Oklahoma City in Norman and Edmond, are built around couples and tend to be quieter. Match the place to the night you want.

What to ask the hotel before you book

  1. "Which room type has the jetted tub, and is it inside the room for our use only?"
  2. "Is the tub big enough for two adults?"
  3. "If I book that room type, is the tub guaranteed, or could we be moved at check-in?"
  4. "Do you offer anything for anniversaries, like champagne or a late checkout, and what does it cost?"
  5. "Is there a resort or amenity fee on top of the rate?"
  6. "Can you note on the reservation that the tub is the reason we booked?"

Questions people ask

What makes a jacuzzi room good for a romantic stay?

Three things matter more than the photos: the tub fits two people, it is private to your room (inside it or on your own balcony), and the room type is guaranteed when you book. A one-person jetted tub in the bathroom is still nice, but it is a different experience from a two-person tub in the suite itself.

Are heart-shaped tubs still around?

A few hotels still have them, mostly older honeymoon resorts. We mark a tub as heart-shaped only when the hotel's own site says so. None of the hotels we have checked so far describe one that way.

Should I tell the hotel it is a special occasion?

Yes, when you call to confirm the room. It costs nothing, and the front desk can add a note to the reservation. Ask what they offer rather than assuming an upgrade.

Are the vacation-club resorts in Orlando and Las Vegas romantic?

Their villas often have a jetted tub in the main bathroom and a separate bedroom, which suits couples. They are also built for families, so expect a busy pool. If quiet matters, inns and boutique hotels are the better fit.
